La idea es que cualquier procedimiento, intervención o uso de medicación durante el parto y postparto sea informado y justificado.
Recomendaciones de la OMS para un Parto Respetado o Humanizado.
La Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) emitió un listado de 56 recomendaciones para el Parto Respetado.
Estas recomendaciones están orientadas no sólo a disminuir las intervenciones innecesarias, sino a mejorar la experiencia de las mujeres; a darles un mayor poder de decisión durante el trabajo de parto y durante el parto y a humanizarlo.
Se trata de evitar determinadas prácticas sistemáticas cuando no están debidamente justificadas, como la medicalización y una intervención médica innecesaria. Es decir, cuando estas prácticas no son precisas ni suponen ningún beneficio para la madre y el bebé.
Su objetivo es conseguir una experiencia de parto positiva y mejorar la salud y bienestar de la madre y el bebé.
¿Cómo saber si debes elegir o no la modalidad de Parto Respetado?
En este tipo de parto, la mujer embarazada a junto con su Ginecólogo elegirá la manera más segura de dar a luz, ya que la mamá confiará en su cuerpo y en sus posibilidades.
Buscará siempre sentirse cómoda y sus decisiones serán respetadas en todo momento.
Pilares básicos del Parto Humanizado.
Entre los pilares más importantes que debes tomar en cuenta para basar tu elección por un Parto Respetado, se encuentran:
1) Libertad para elegir la postura para dar a luz.
Llegado el momento la mujer podrá elegir la postura con la que se sienta más cómoda para parir (acostada, de pie, en cuclillas), siguiendo su propio instinto.
2) Corte tardío del cordón en el momento del alumbramiento.
En un Parto Respetado también se podrá esperar entre dos y tres minutos antes de cortar el cordón.
Y es que se ha demostrado que el corte tardío del cordón umbilical permite que al bebé le llegue más sangre, lo que se traduce en más hierro, más hemoglobina, un mayor efecto antioxidante, así como un descenso de la inflamación en los casos de partos inducidos.
3) No separar a la madre y al bebé durante el tiempo que la madre y el bebé permanezcan en el hospital.
Se debe garantizar en todo momento el contacto piel con piel y la no separación de ambos.
Ciertas pruebas y reconocimiento médicos pueden realizarse en la habitación en compañía de los padres o sobre el pecho de la madre, para minimizar el dolor y el estrés del bebé.

El Parto Respetado tiene múltiples beneficios como:
- Favorece el proceso del parto con el mínimo intervencionismo, es decir, sólo se medicará en caso de necesitarlo y con pleno consentimiento de la madre, con el fin de garantizar su seguridad y la del bebé.
- Permite el soporte emocional durante el parto, con el fin de minimizar las causas de miedo y ansiedad de la madre.
- Mejora el vínculo mamá – hijo.
- Favorece la lactancia materna.
¿Quién puede tener un Parto Respetado?
Cualquier mujer puede tener la opción de tener un Parto Respetado.
Muchas mujeres creen que este tipo de parto es aquel que obligatoriamente debe experimentarse sin anestesia epidural entre otras características.
Pero realmente toda mujer consigue su parto humanizado o natural, si se ha sentido cómoda, segura y cree que se ha respetado al máximo el proceso fisiológico.
Si la intervención obstétrica se debe a una solicitud de la mujer, por ejemplo, aplicar la anestesia epidural para mejorar su confort, no por ello deja de ser un Parto Humanizado o Respetado.
